About Us

We are Australasia’s only manufacturer and leading supplier of passenger boarding bridges and associated gateway equipment. We provide intelligent, tailor-made, high quality solutions combined with superior service levels and aftersales support.

Established in Wellington in 1974, Airport Equipment Ltd is the only company in the region with aerobridges as our main core business – from design to planning to manufacture – capable of designing,building and managing any project that a customer may require.

Our Passenger Boarding Bridges and our other products are manufactured by Wellington-based J&D McLennan, of which we are a subsidiary, at one of the largest and most comprehensively equipped engineering shops in the region. We have total control over the entire in-house manufacturing process giving us a class-leading level of flexibility.

We have a long history of manufacturing passenger boarding bridges under license to JBTC Jetway, the oldest and most established aerobridge supply company in the world. This partnership gives us access to JBT engineering, designs and processes which we can modify at our facility if necessary to meet any special project requirement.

We carry out all of the design project management and manufacturing work at our facility in New Zealand. At Sydney International Airport, we have a team focused on maintenance whose duties include the servicing of all aerobridges, ground power, pre-conditioned air and NIGS units at T1 and T2.

Since 1974, we have supplied more than 250 bridges to airports all over the region – from Fiji to Papua New Guinea, Auckland, Wellington, Sydney and Perth – to name but a few. In fact – and we never tire of pointing this out – some of the very first bridges that we built for Auckland Airport are still in operational service today!

While our focus is on offering a better product with a superior aftersales service, we are also constantly looking to add value to our products by increasing our range of ancillary products and services. A part of this is our ability to design and manufacture specialised equipment such as jet blast protection barriers and potable water connetors and fittings. We also supply, install and maintain a complete range of ground power and pre-conditioned air units.
